LPA completed an MSBA Feasibility Study of options for the J.R. Briggs Elementary School in Ashburnham which determined a new building was needed. The 520 student, 86,000 sf state-of-the-art elementary school was designed to support Ashburnham’s elementary school population for the next 50 years. The Pre-K through grade 5 school contains many innovative features, including a specially-designed wing for early childhood and an extended day program. A wood pellet boiler system that takes advantage of this locally available fuel source was incorporated into the design. Interactive white boards and 1:1 wireless technology are used throughout the building. Common areas outside classrooms provide flexible learning spaces for tutorials and team projects. Based on the Construction Manager at Risk delivery method, the CM was required to implement practices and procedures to meet the project’s environmental goals which included achieving a Massachusetts Collaborative for High Performance Schools (MA-CHPS) accreditation.
“This new school is amazing, and it is designed to allow the students to be successful socially, emotionally and academically…”
